One of the promising solutions to decarbonize steel production consists of replacing the Blast Furnace with an Electric Smelting Furnace to produce hot metal to be processed in existing Basic Oxygen Furnaces. The use of alternative, sometimes low-grades, iron bearing materials is expected. Both Electric Smelting Furnace and new feedstocks will lead to new slags that must be easily integrated in current circularity loops to ensure sustainability and competitiveness of the new route. Therefore, this contribution focuses on a flowsheet model currently used for extensive scenarios simulations aimed at evaluating Electric Smelting Furnace slags in case of different metallic feedstocks.

Abstract
One of the promising solutions to decarbonize steel production consists of replacing the Blast Furnace with an Electric Smelting Furnace to produce hot metal to be processed in existing Basic Oxygen Furnaces. The use of alternative, sometimes low-grades, iron bearing materials is expected. Both Electric Smelting Furnace and new feedstocks will lead to new slags that must be easily integrated in current circularity loops to ensure sustainability and competitiveness of the new route. Therefore, this contribution focuses on a flowsheet model currently used for extensive scenarios simulations aimed at evaluating Electric Smelting Furnace slags in case of different metallic feedstocks.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
